2016 Art Meets Science Exhibit

MAINE Mount Desert Island
2016 Art Meets Science
June 20 – September 30
Opening Reception: July 7th 5-7 p.m.
Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory

The 2016 Art Meets Science exhibit, A Fresh Field of Life: Artists, Naturalists and the Vision for Acadia, includes artist and scientist collaborations, one between artist Robyn Ellenbogen and scientists Kevin Strange, Ph.D., and Dustin Updike, Ph.D., and one between artist Linda Rowell-Kelley and Jane Disney, Ph.D.

Concurrent with the centennial celebration of Acadia National Park, the MDI Biological Laboratory’s fifth annual Art Meets Science exhibition tells the story of art and science coming together on this island in the 19th century, the founding of a national park to preserve their co-existence, and how art and science connect our knowledge in the 21st century.

Kimberly Callas will be exhibiting a bronze work created from work that was made during her 2015 collaboration with MDIBL scientist James Coffman, Ph.D.

The exhibit is open June 20 through September 30, 2016, with guided tours available by reservation.
